Unless otherwise indicated, all events are free and open to the public and begin at Blue Sky parking lot. Bring your own water as there is no drinking water available in Blue Sky.

Vernal equinox occurs at 2:01 am today! Come out and observe the seasonal changes in our habitat and enjoy some lovely vantage points on an interpretive hike from Blue Sky around Poway Lake with docent Celeste Larson. Moderate 5.5 mi.

saturday, march 22, 9:00 - 11:30 AM. Better together

Many animals rely on each other to survive. Whether it's for protection or for help gathering food, it's clear that they are better together. Learn about animals that live or work in groups, brush up your artistic talents with a craft, and look for animal teamwork in action on a hike in the Reserve.  Limited to 24 children. An adult must accompany their child. Register at poway.org/classes. $4 per child.

Sign up at friendsofblueskycanyon@gmail.com. Everyone is very welcome and no experience is needed. Our leaders need assistance spotting and counting!

saturday, april 5 - 9:00 AM. ramona dam power walk

Get your cardio on! Join Docent Eric Brewer for a quick-paced hike through Blue Sky Canyon and climb to beautiful Lake Ramona. Don’t worry, we won’t leave anyone behind, but having a reasonably good fitness level is recommended. The hike is 4.6 miles. Don’t forget to bring water.

Calling all dogs. Bring your humans and join Docent Anna Gateley-Stanton for a walk in Blue Sky. Don’t forget your leash, treats and water!

Saturday, april 19 - 9:00 - 11:00 am. trail maintenance

Join us for some routine maintenance on the Torretto Trail. Tasks will include cleaning signage, and vegetation trimming at trail sides. Bring garden gloves if you have them. Long pants, long sleeves and closed toed shoes recommended. Water and snacks will be provided. No experience needed.

Wander the 4 habitats of Blue Sky with Docent Celeste Larson. Easy-paced, interpretive hike, 3 miles.

Search for wildflowers with Docent Carol Simpson and see the wonders of nature provided by our much-appreciated rainfall this season.

Join Docent Anna Gateley-Stanton for a fun morning dog walk in Blue Sky. Don’t forget your leash, treats and water!

sunday, may 11 - 6:00 am. mom’s day wakeup hike

Skip the breakfast in bed routine and join Docent Celeste Larson for an early morning 5-mile loop through Blue Sky and around Lake Poway. We can grab coffee at the new Lookout Cafe before we circle back.

saturday, may 17 - 9:00 - 11:00 am. junior nature ranger

Docents will lead children through a series of activities allowing them to experience nature firsthand and have fun outdoors. Nature Ranger Certificates will be issued on completion of activities. Get ready to dive into the amazing world of pollination, where small creatures make big things happen! Young explorers will learn why these little heroes are so important for our planet. Presentation, hike, crafts and giveaways. Limited to 25 children. Children must be accompanied by an adult. friday, june 20 - 6:00 pm. summer solstice hike

Start the summer on an evening hike through Blue Sky with Docent Celeste Larson. We’ll head up to Ramona Dam and stop to observe the official arrival of summer at 7:42 on the way back down. Out and back is 4.5 miles, 800 ft. elevation gain.
